Walk Down Hammond

These days, I spend a lot of time walking. For the first few days, the majority of my conscious thought was expended on not ending up lost. To say I have developed a familiarity with the surrounding area would be barely short of a lie, but I’m slowly expanding my knowledge. However, with repeated routine, my confidence in my direction grows, freeing more mental energy for other subjects. These days, I spend a lot of time thinking.

I realized it has been a while since I have thought much of anything. I am another modern causality of the information and media overload. Movies, Youtube, Facebook, Twitter, ESPN, TV shows and more. Maybe it was the separation from intellectual stimulus inherent in college, or simply a defense mechanism to avoid concerning myself with pressing matters. Maybe both. Maybe neither. All I know is that, these days, I spent a lot of time walking and thinking.

Multiple times a week, I find myself walking down Hammond in route to campus. That mile stretch has become a semi-weekly moment of reflection. Some days, I miss driving, if only for convenience, but each person needs their quiet place. Despite the busy traffic, mine is the walk down Hammond.
